Look Who's Walkin' Now is the title of Randy Renner's excellent country music album. It was a pleasure reviewing the ten songs included in this release. First, because each of the ten songs, sung with Randy Renner's unique, identifiable voice, has merit, and secondly because they all fit together so well.
The Look Who's Walkin' Now CD plays like a good live performance set. Renner's experience as a top local performer in his native, central Wisconsin location certainly is apparent in the flow of the album.
Rockin' Country is a genuwine kickin' it country rock song. It is a great opener for the CD as well as any live appearance that Randy Renner and his Closin' Time Band are booked into; a true attention grabber. Leave the Leavin' is pure country love, the kind of song that makes you want to hold your love tight, and then tighter still. It is a very strong track.
My Closest Friend is both a dedication and a true country folk ballad. Randy Renner's strong songwriting ability is revealed in this tender and sensitive piece. As in any great country music set, just when you've had your romantic side stoked and tweaked to the point where you are ready to take your partner to a more intimate place, the CD hits you with the title track, Look Who's Walkin' Now. Put your best boots on because you will definitely be kickin' it on the dance floor. Though one of only three songs on the album not written by Randy Renner, he it plays it like he owns it, mastering the uptempo swing beats and rhythm.
All in all, I have to say I enjoyed Look Who's Walkin' Now. Not for its ground breaking new sounds, but instead for its lack of pretentiousness and delivery of good, solid fare. Randy Renner comes across as a real person; a sincere artist with a poetic heart and a knack for foot stomping beats and romantic melodies. There is nothnig but realness here. If you like true country with none of the phony rhinestone gloss, then I highly recommend Randy Renner's Look Who's Walkin Now.
